The October Durango Heritage Celebration, October 9-12 2008, is a multi-faceted festival of Durango's colorful and diverse history. The community-wide event offers a variety of activities, sure to please ladies, gentlemen and children. It includes many opportunities for attendees to dress up and be a part of Durango’s Victorian and Old West past, or to enjoy the ambiance in modern dress.

The celebration focuses on the golden era in the history of Durango, from its founding in 1881 to 1910. Highlights include, but are not limited to: a Grand Victorian Ball, a Victorian Governors’ Banquet,Downtown Durango Colorado Todaya period costume promenade on historic Third Avenue, a Victorian fashion show and tea, a barber shop concert, a vintage gun workshop, historic walking tours, a period steam train ride on our historic narrow-gauge railroad and other fun and educational activities throughout Durango’s downtown.

The cornerstone activity of this event will be a Grand Victorian Ball to be held on Saturday, October 11th, 2008. The ball will feature the authentic Victorian music of the Grandview Victorian Orchestra, with dance prompting by Sharon Guli of River Crossing, Inc. The dances are not difficult and Sharon and Mike will make participation successful and very enjoyable for all!
